Good November to ALL!!! Whew, this year has sure flown by. John and Kenny had a BUSY October. In this issue we will discuss more about the year four proposal to the DD Council. We will also be discussing meetings that we had ALL over the state, among other issues. CDRC Year Four
CDRC has made the minor changes to their year four proposal that the DD Council asked them to make and has submitted them to the DD council for their approval. The Council had asked CDRC to revise some of the details relating to our first CORE ISSUE, that being that we want to work with the state to enforce The Right To Be Informed (RTBI). CDRC had its October meeting Sunday, the 23rd. CDRC members came up with some GREAT ideas for revision of our core issue. CDRC still needs applications for our new “Board of Leadership” CDRC members voted on the name of its new five person group at the October meeting. Our members decided
on the name “Board of Leadership” for the group. The Board
of Leadership will help guide the leadership of CDRC and its activities. We only have 8 applications so far for this new group. We need to
receive several more. If you are interested in being part of our very busy, very powerful group, please submit an application. An
application can be printed from our web site www.thecdrc.org. Meeting with Resource CoordinationOn October 7th John and Kenny gave a presentation to the staff of Resource Coordination at their retreat at Tucahoe State Park on the Eastern Shore. We explained to them what types of issues CDRC works on. We also got some sense of the needs for services the Eastern Shore could use for disabled individuals, such as doctors, dentists, and supports, along with many more things. John and Kenny feel their presentation went very well. The Resource Coordinators were very receptive. We believe we made some good contacts that will be a big help in the future. A Day with Doug DuncanCDRC heard from a little birdie that Doug Duncan would be speaking on October 9th at the Rosewood Center in Owings Mill Maryland. Rosewood is one of the four State Residential Centers, (institutions) that we have in the state of Maryland. This event was hosted by AFSCME (Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees). AFSCME is the union that supports the workers of the four State Residential Centers. (Rosewood, Brandenburg, Potomac Center, and Holly Center) CDRC found out about this event about 3 days before it was to take place. With some hard work from John and Kenny, we got 15 CDRC members to attend this event. Before even walking /wheeling in the door, some of the people there did NOT want CDRC members to attend the event, and tried to keep us out (we wonder why). The event went well. CDRC members were well behaved, believe it or not. Like a good politician, Mr. Duncan did not commit to opening any institutions for new admissions. Nor he did commit to closing any. One, Two, FreeOn October 14th the Sunshine Folks met to discuss all of the great work that they are accomplishing in assisting individuals out of Nursing Facilities. All the Sunshine Folks are excited with their work. Some of the Sunshine Folks are working on freeing 2 or 3 individuals from a Nursing Facility at one time. FREE OUR PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!! Meeting with Service CoordinationJohn and Kenny attended the Service Coordination Retreat in Middletown on Oct. 20th. We gave
a Power Point presentation to nearly 300 Service Coordinators about CDRC. We think the
presentation went extremely well. We received A LOT of excellent questions after our
presentation. We asked the Coordinators for assistance in implementing The Right To Be
Informed (RTBI). They said they world be happy to work us on implementation.
